My family is recovering from a fun-filled and sugar- laden holiday. But we are getting ready for some big changes in our lifestyle. It's not just me who is dealing with food and weight issues but two of sweet children, too. It's come to a point where I can no longer hide my head in the sand. My youngest son particularly needs serious change and so we are all going for it.
It's overwhelming to realize just how much all my weeknesses have hurt my children but I have to face it. I have a lit that I need to overcome so that my loved ones can have a chance.
So, with that in mind, there will be a new challenge coming up for us. Details to follow.
So, what do you and your family do to encourage healthy children? I'd love to hear your ideas!

I keep a basket of fresh fruit on the kitchen table at all times. My kids are the best at grabbing fruit everyday...and often instead of asking for something else...they grab an apple, pear, orange, banana....and so on. I try to keep a variety of fruit in there so there is always a choice, too. The fruit basket is always emptied out every week.
ReplyDeleteWhen each of my kids turned 12, they each had to begin making a dinner once a week. They come up with a month of menus at a time and put on the shopping list items we may not have (they have to look to see if we have them). The meals have to be pre-approved and well balanced. By having them do these things, they've made some choices (on their own) to cook healthy...and choose healthy. They both now make most of their meals without meat...all are from scratch. Bonus...I know they won't have to resort to processed foods in the real world because they are already living the real world with real food.
Good luck! Every choice helps. :)
My kids LOVE video games. We buy lost of wii games that get them active. Some of our favorites are Active Life Explorer, Active life outdoor challenge and wii fit.
ReplyDeleteSecondly we try to eat only whole foods. Desserts are occasional and are usually home made. Some desserts we like with stevia are pumpkin pudding and whip cream, banana bread, and cookies.
I dont feed a bunch of kids any longer..... but this year I dried a ton of fruit, I am totally addicted to dried pears. I toss them and an some almonds in a baggie for my morning snack. The little ones acutally like the dried fruit as well.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck on your journey
My gym teacher recommended reading "The Eat Clean Diet for Families." It was really good and scared the crap out of me how I am feeding my children. I need to read it again and put some of it into action. The only change I made was not buying soda for my kids anymore. So I know I need to do better. I can't wait to hear what you are going to try.
